Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) along with Codingal brings you HPE CodeWars 2022. An online hackathon and coding competition designed to inspire, motivate and engage grade 9-12 students to learn to code and find innovative solutions to real-life issues. HPE CodeWars was founded by HP to help cultivate student interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to develop future technology leaders.
Starting 23 years back, it has evolved into a phenomenon that students across the world look forward to. HPE CodeWars is a computer programming competition with the intent to evangelize coding amongst High School Students. Starting in 1998, CodeWars has since expanded to many countries including the USA, Spain, Taiwan, and India.
In addition to the regular coding competitions held in India this year, HPE CodeWars will also include hackathons. Grade 9-12 students across India can participate in the competition and six winners will win a chance to write code and run experiments on HPE’s Spaceborne Computer-2 (SBC-2), currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Participants will have a chance to win prizes worth ₹3,00,000 from HPE, a badge of honor from HPE and recognition certificates from STEM.org, along with mentorship from top HPE technologists.
Registration & participation in HPE CodeWars 2022 is free of cost. For Code Battle, grade 9-12 students are required to solve 25 coding-related problems in 3 hours using any of the programming languages including C, C++, Java, and Python. The coding competition is planned for 9-Apr-2022, Saturday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The 3-hour competition will involve solving 25 coding problems using any of the programming languages among C, C++, Java, Python, and JavaScript. It starts with simple problems with difficulty level increasing for later problems. For Code Battle, you can practice problems in the practice arena. This will prepare you for the coding competitions and problem-solving. They will help you get familiar with the type of problem statements to expect in the main competition.
Hackathons are a great way to enhance one’s coding skills, proficiency, and team-building skills. Here is an amazing opportunity for grade 9-12 students to take part in one of the largest coding hackathons in India. For Hackathon, you can participate individually or as a team consisting of a maximum of 3 members. The registration for the hackathon started on 21st Jan and will be open till 30th March 2022. You can submit ideas and projects around the following three themes:
- Theme 1: India 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
- Theme 2: Healthcare
- Theme 3: Cyber Awareness
You can ideate, create an application, game, or website around these themes mentioned and compete with the best coders out there. You can submit projects in Java, CSS, Python, HTML and JavaScript. And there are exciting prizes too that are worth 3 Lakh INR to be won across hackathon and coding competition. For the coding competition 1st Prize is 40000 INR, 2nd 30000 INR and 3rd 20000 INR in addition to prizes for the first 50 leaderboard ranks. There are prizes for the top 10 ranks for the hackathon. The top leaderboard ranks for the coding competition and the hackathon will also get 1: 1 mentorship from top technologists of HPE where you can ask any questions around career guidance and technology landscape.
In addition, the top 3 leaderboard positions for the coding competition and Winner for Hackathon get to run their program on Spaceborne 2 (SBC2) computer. HPE’s supercomputer SBC2 is part of a global experiment conducted by HPE and NASA to run a high-performance commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) computer system in space, which has never been done before.
