Overview

Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Pravega X in partnership with Codingal is hosting an online coding competition designed to inspire and challenge students from grades 1 to 12. 


This event aims to foster creativity, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills while introducing participants to the exciting world of computer programming. 


Whether you are a coding prodigy or just beginning your coding journey, this competition has something exciting for everyone. You can participate individually and start building innovative projects.

About Prof. Viraj Kumar

 

 

Dr. Viraj Kumar is a Professor at IISc Bangalore and the Chair of ACM India’s Special Interest Group for CS Education (iSIGCSE). He has a keen interest in Computer Science pedagogy, with an emphasis on developing software tools for educational purposes. He completed his PhD (2007) in computer science and later taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was awarded the Rose Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Education (2011).

Themes and Projects

  

Themes


Grade 1-4


Theme 1: Guardians of the Forest
Build an animated story featuring the brave guardians of the Magical Forest. You can use code blocks to design the magical creature and give it unique abilities; make the creature fly, dance, or even talk!

 

Theme 2: Adventure Game
Create an adventure game around using different land creatures as sprites.

 

Platform: Build a project using block-based platforms such as Scratch, Code.org, etc. by choosing one of the above themes.

 

Grade 5-8


Theme 1: Health Heroes: Fitness and Wellness
Develop a fitness app focused on promoting health and wellness. The aim is to inspire healthy habits, such as exercise, proper nutrition, and mindfulness, to help improve overall well-being.

 

Theme 2: Code for a Cause
Choose a real-world social issue  and build an app around it. The application must solve at least one of the social issues we face.

 

Platform: Build a project using block-based platforms such as Thunkable, code.org, etc. by choosing one of the above themes.

 

Grade 9-12


Theme 1: Environmental Awareness Website
Build a website focused on raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting eco-friendly practices. 

 

Theme 2: Sports and Fitness Portal
Create a website dedicated to sports and fitness. Provide information on various sports, fitness routines, and healthy living tips.

 

Platform: Java, CSS, Python, HTML & JavaScript

How to register for the competition?
 

  1. Click on the "Register & Start" button.

  2. Input your mobile number.

  3. Enter the information in the registration form.

  4. Click on the "Submit" button. You are registered for the competition.

 


How to Submit Your Project?


Once you have registered and finished your project, Go to the "IISC Junior Code Clash 2023" competition page on the Codingal website.


1. Click "Register & Start" and input your mobile number
2. Click on "Submit Project" and fill in the below information:
 

  • Select your Group* (Grade 1-4/5-8/9-12)

  • Select your Theme* 

  • Project Name*  (Any name of your choice for your project)

  • Development Platform* (e.g.- Scratch, Thunkable, Repl, etc.)

  • Project Description* (Tell us something about your project)

  • Project Link (Share the Link of your project)

  • Upload Project File (Only If Applicable)

  • Upload a zip file of screenshots/images of the app/website (Only If Applicable - and it should not be more than 50 MB)

  • Upload a zip file of screenshots/images of source code of the app/website (Only If Applicable - and it should not be more than 50 MB)

 
 3. Click "Submit" & you are done.

FAQs

1. Why do I need to register using a mobile number?

You are required to register via a mobile number as it is the primary source of identification for registration and project submission.
 
2. Is this competition online?

Yes, this competition is 100% online. The contestant can work on their project at any place and time as long as they have access to a computer/laptop and an internet connection.
 
3. How much does it cost to enter this competition?

There is no registration fee to participate in the competition.
 
4. Can I submit projects late?

Unfortunately, we do not accept any late projects. All projects must be submitted by the project submission deadline.
 
5. What if I forget my registered mobile number while submitting the project?

In case you forget your registered mobile number, you will have to re-register for the competition before submitting the project
 
6. I entered the wrong information in one of the form fields while submitting my project.

If you have entered the wrong information in one of the form fields, refresh the page before clicking on the "Submit Project" button at the bottom of the form
 
7. Will the old project be considered for evaluation?
No, an old or previous project will not be considered for evaluation.
 
8. Can I submit more than one project?
No. You can submit only one project per competition.
